Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What is a triathlon?
A: Triathlon is an exciting multi-discipline sport involving a continuous race over various distances in the three disciplines of swimming, cycling and running. A standard triathlon is made up of a swim, followed by a cycle ride, followed by a run.

Competitors race against the clock, which starts as they enter the swim and stops as they cross the finish line after the run. For this reason, triathlon is often reported as having a 'fourth discipline' known as the transition.

The transition is the point in the race when competitors change from swimming to cycling, and from cycling to running.

Q: What is the difference between a triathlon and a duathlon or aquathlon?
A: Whilst a triathlon consists of swimming, cycling and running, a duathlon replaces the swim with a second run, making it a run-cycle-run. An aquathlon, sometimes called a biathlon, is only two disciplines, a swim and run.

Q: How early should I arrive before my start time?
A: A massively underrated part of race preparation is getting to an event at least an hour before your start time. This leaves enough time to see the course and get your kit ready as nobody wants to spend money in entering an event and then get lost on the course or miss their start slot. If you do miss your slot we will try our best to find another space for you but please arrive ready and on poolside 15 minutes before your start time.
